I remember Mr Salzman-if he is the same person my Dad worked with on Long Island, NY. My Dad rose to Meat Supervisor for Long Island. I remember Mr Salzman fondly-when I was very I’ll
as a teen he sent me flowers. I also worked through my later teens as a cashier in East Islip, Islip, and Oakdale. Thanks for the rememberance and I am so sorry to hear what happened to your Dad. He was always very good to my Dad.

]]>Everything you stated about her is right. This article is not about Nancy Green the person, it’s about the stereotype of Aunt Jemima. It’s a stereotype that was made out of the minstrel show culture. The facts are black maid’s didn’t look or act like Aunt Jimema during slavery time. You can celebrate Nancy Green the person but also condemn the Aunt Jimema the caricature. We have to let go of this thought that just because something was a sacred childhood memory doesn’t mean it’s above reproach. Ms. Green was just making a living for herself and her family. I don’t blame her in the slightest. The powers that be that came up with the idea to name the product after a minstrel show stereotype are my target.
