In the religions of Christianity and Catholicism, there is a service/ritual called Communion or the formal name of transubstantiation. In the ceremony the pastor/priest takes a piece of bread/cracker/wafer which represents Jesus Christ’s body and a glass of wine/ grape juice which is representing Jesus Christ’s blood. The pastor/priest offers the items to the congregation who eat and drink them to attain communion with Jesus Christ.
In Lutheran traditions, the bread and wine are symbols of the blood and flesh of Christ, while in Catholicism the bread and wine are actually supposed to be the blood and flesh of Christ. Either way, you look at it, both are supposed to create a closer bond with Christ. Sounds disgusting, but the ceremony has been going on for centuries and the crackers and grape juice are quite tasty, if one is hungry during service.
In the Catholic church, until the 1960s, the Priest started Mass with a Latin phrase. In front of the congregation the priest held high a piece of bread and stated “Hoc est corpus!”- which translates into “This is the body”, and the bread “magically” transforms into the flesh of Christ. Back then, like now, a lot of the common folks couldn’t speak Latin, so the phrase got mistranslated into “Hocus-Pocus!”
The words a Priest spoke when “magically” transforming a piece of bread into the flesh of Christ, are now synonymous with a magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat. Next time you’re at a magic show or watching a movie or tv show and the words Hocus Pocus are uttered, you now know the religious origins and mistranslation the words come from.

They want it to exist as an object that really has no any importance to anything at all. Some think it as just plain odd to allow these kinds of things to occur alas they do anyway even when you dont want it to but thats just the way it is.
